Visually Impaired
The Visually Impaired Bowling Program started in 1993 with an invitation from Gus Lakas and Nelles Wilson, long time members of the Oshawa Lawn Bowling Club (OLBC). The program has been running for 28 years.
In 2002, four of the club’s Visually Impaired Bowlers, accompanied by four coaches, competed in the Canadian Championships in Vancouver B.C., after qualifying in the Provincials which were held at OLBC. One of those bowlers still plays at our club today.
The Visually Impaired Bowling Program takes place every Tuesday at 10:00 am from June through to the end of September, weather permitting. A dedicated crew of volunteer coaches from our membership assists the bowlers on and off the greens, instructs them in playing the game, and offers direction as needed in rolling the bowl to the jack.
Bowlers and coaches alike enjoy their time on the greens.
